There are a number of bad stretches of Freeway all around the nation according to the 2004-2005 guide of the worst roads in America for the full-time RV despite the 780 Billion Dollar transportation 10-budget spending bill, which promised to alleviate all the problems with our nation’s highways and byways.
California had several bad sections, so did Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New York and areas near many main metros in several other states. Still we noted that the very worst freeway for a travel trailer, motor home coach or a recreational vehicle was indeed Arkansas.
It was not really a difficult choice as I-40 and I-30 were indeed horrific. They were so bad that our test team had to exit the freeway and take a parallel road on the way from West Memphis to Little Rock and then again from Little Rock to Hope Arkansas.
The side road parallels are the highway 70 and highway 64 along I-40 and the highway 67 along I-30. If it were not for those roads there would not have been much of the RV left after crossing that state. Don’t be surprised if you hit some highways that are in a state of disrepair like Arkansas when you drive thru the states in an RV.
